“The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself.” ~ Anna Quindlen

"Giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself"... How many of us have versions of ourselves that serve a particular purpose?  You know the person you are at parents evening, the person you are at play dates, the person you are at work, the person you are when you see how much your social media fave seems to be doing whilst simultaneously being earth mother to her 21 children and managing to have date nights on a regular basis.  All of those versions we cultivate to represent the best version of ourselves in that moment, for that purpose.  Versions we create to present the myth of perfection.

How many times have you decided not to do or say that thing?  How many times have you failed to claim your space, say yes or say no because it may disrupt the idea of perfection you consciously and subconsciously work to perpetuate?

Today lets disrupt this idea of perfection, it won't be easy but being yourself is so much better than managing all of these representatives and being dishonest.  Perfection is not a panacea it is a chokehold that holds you to an unattainable standard preventing you from being the best YOU can.  Don't get it twisted, I am not suggesting that you become impulsive and uncaring.  What I am saying is do not focus on perfection, focus on being you, make plans, do the work, ensure your intentions are based on a positive exchange of energy and keep moving forward in honesty.

This week promise to write yourself a love letter, but write it as if you are your best friend.  Write to yourself with kind loving thoughts, celebrate your strengths and do not include any weaknesses or areas for development.  You are writing a letter highlighting what you think should be celebrated, the little idiosyncrasies that make you, you.  Share the things about yourself that make you smile, small things that only people that really know you notice as well as the big things that other people recognise and praise you for.  It may feel uncomfortable to begin with... you may start it this week and then shy away for a week or two but do it and refer back to it whenever you feel the need to project a 'perfect' image, I hope this letter will be a reminder that there is no need to be anyone other than your authentic self.

Always with love,

Tamu xx

(I wrote this post on the evening of 03/06/17, in light of the tragedy that occurred on London Bridge that night I think now more than ever we need to forget perfection and be ourselves. Perfection is a facade and life is too precious waste time pretending. Sending love and light to all the people impacted by the far reaching actions of extremists).

We are celebrating our first anniversary on 14th June with a panel discussion   We would love you to join us.  Read about the event here and book ticketshere
