RAISING EXCELLENCE 1ST ANNIVERSARY EVENT!
"Just because we are magic doesn't mean we are not real” – Jesse Williams.
On Wednesday 14th June 2017 online forum Motherhood Reconstructed is celebrating its 1st anniversary with a panel discussion entitled, "Raising Excellence". This conversation will explore the reality of raising children to reach their full potential whilst avoiding the limitations of stereotypes and not being burdened by issues of racial bias.
The Motherhood Reconstructed websitewww.motherhood-reconstructed.com was set up in June 2016 as a positive online space to celebrate black mothers. The website was established to address the lack of representation of black mothers in the mainstream media and inspired by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Ted Talk on the danger of a single story. Our aim is to share authentic narratives of black British motherhood.
Since the Motherhood Reconstructed launch on 13th June 2016 they have organised panel discussions, a Caribbean brunch, Mother and Mini-me ‘meet ups’ and posted blog content on a variety of topics ranging from the experience of raising a transgender child to the minefield of dating as a single Mother, interviews, recipes and topical discussions.
The Raising Excellence panel discussion will feature inspirational Mothers who will be sharing their experiences, thoughts and tips for raising children with a grounding sense of their identity and a strong belief that they must not limit themselves due to other people’s perceptions:
Marianne Miles – MD of Merite Media, Writer and Media Consultant (www.mariannemiles.co.uk)
