I’m Stacey Leigh, I used to work as a Social Worker and left that role to work and support women in a Women’s Refuge. When I had my youngest I decided to not go back due to my son being diagnosed with Autism. I now run Mothering Autism on Instagram which provides a support network for parents/carers of those who are pre/post a diagnosis of Autism. I also discuss a lot about Mental Health.
“Self care for me is that MOT. It’s that timely check in. It’s securing any loose mental paving and taking the time to slot it right back into place, before I fall over it. I am not stringent about how self care is performed in my life. Any attempt at caring for self in this busy time we live in can only be positive. Some say its not a manicure or pedicure, it's not a night out or shopping. I say self care is anything we need it to be”.
The book is called The Forgotten Forest. When the book arrived I was thrilled. Not only is the book beautifully illustrated the story is a delight!

Today we spend a day with mother of two Rachel Osinaike aka “Grateful Rachel”. Rachel is a qualified teacher and has been successfully running a tuition centre since 2005. Rachel has written a book, “Bounce Back: Turning trials into Triumphs”. This book tells a story of victory against painful odds.
I chose my profession because…. I always wanted to be a journalist, and started out as one in 2000. The career I have today as an author and creative writing coach, has just kind of presented itself as I’ve gone along the path of self-development. I love how flexible it is, and that I can fit my passions around my family life.
If I could exchange my career for any career in the world it would be… because… I wouldn’t! I’ve made a massive career change, qualifying as a nutritionist after 15 years working in advertising and I truly love what I do!
I chose to study because… I wanted to finish what I started, and my degree is an opportunity to elevate my future and my family’s socio-economic status. Having said that I’m at a very creative and transitional point in my life and writing for me has been way more successful than I could have ever imagined. Unlike my degree I didn’t choose it to be sensible its very much a passion of mine.
I, like many other parents, allowed motherhood to completely take over my sense of self. Who am I without my children? In that episode Iyanla explains that we all need to be selfish in order to be effective to those we love. ‘My cup runneth over, what’s in my cup is for me, what runs over is for everyone else’.
I now use the festive period to catch up with loved ones, eat loads of food, dance in my slippers, enjoy the big belly laughing and creating joyful memories.
This week promise to write yourself a love letter, but write it as if you are your best friend. Write to yourself with kind loving thoughts, celebrate your strengths and do not include any weaknesses or areas for development.
t’s not a competition though, we are doing it for the activity value and to encourage you to engage in a long(ish) term project with your child(ren).
